Our Orchard

Our hillside orchard has more than 7,000 trees in several different varieties—and we get a little help from our neighbors.

Unlike most apple-growing areas, our region’s temperature fluctuations give our apples an extra punch of flavor. The folks who visit us every year love our “mountain apples”—in fact, we can’t grow enough to make all of the cider, pies and apple butter that our customers want. That’s why we work with neighboring farms to bring you the best of local flavors and stay true to our Appalachian roots. At the Apple Barn, we believe in providing the best local products we can find.

Apple Season

We grow many different varieties of apples here, and they mature at different times. Our apple harvest begins in late August with some early varieties and continues through October as each variety ripens. We may use as many as 30 varieties of apples to make our ciders, pies and apple butters, changing the recipes with the season.
