Apple Barn Story

The Kilpatrick family has cared for this farm since the 1970s, and built a family business based on respect for the land, a sense of community and a desire to make our customers feel at home.

The Barn

The centerpiece of the Apple Barn is the soaring former cattle barn built in 1910, out of wormy chestnut and English walnut trees grown on the property.

When the apple trees that Bill Kilpatrick planted in the 1970s began to bear more fruit than they could use, Georgia Kilpatrick set up shop in the family carport, selling bagged apples for a few weeks each fall. Friends and neighbors would drive by to buy apples, while Bill experimented with a cider press.

The apple crop soon outgrew the carport, and the barn became the logical place to put in a store. The family scrubbed the barn, one board at a time, and laid a wood floor around 1980. In 1981, the old barn started its new life as a place to buy apples and cider, made on site, for a few weeks every fall.

It's a Family Affair

An Authentic Experience

Nothing at The Apple Barn is for show. The Apple Barn is an entire farm-to-table operation, with an emphasis on local products and listening to customers.

The farm where the Kilpatrick brothers played baseball and rode bikes now welcomes other families, who bring their children and grandchildren to play on the riverbank. The Cider Bar was born when visitors wanted a place to relax and have a snack and a glass of cider. Before long, the demand for their neighbor’s homemade fried pies grew so much that they added a kitchen—and expanded the menu. Visitors today can taste the same flavors, see many of the same employees and enjoy the same views of fields and orchards as they did 50 years ago.
